Abstract
A continuing program of investigations of the infrared spectrum of Jupiter is described. The aim of this program is the identification and interpretation of absorptions due to constituents of the planet's atmosphere. The primary source of the data required for this work is a series of laboratory studies of the spectra of gases subjected to simulated planetary conditions. Results to date include extensions of known absorption bands of methane and ammonia, the identification of new bands, and upper limits on the abundances of several gases. The second overtone of $\nu_{3}$ of methane has been analyzed semi-empirically to derive an atmospheric temperature of $200 \pm 25^{\circ}K$.
