Abstract

Despite sharing many similarities, the Fronde and the English Civil Wars had markedly different outcomes. Whilst the English Civil Wars ended in the king's beheading and ushered in a radically new form of government, the Fronde essentially cemented the status quo. This thesis explores why the the French did not follow in the footsteps of the English, focusing in particular on factors such as the underlying government structure and the French reaction to the English Civil Wars.
