Abstract

It is well known that the spectrum of the free molecule NO exhibits strong perturbations arising from numerous interactions between valence and Rydberg states. Pressures of Argon up to $\sim$ 30 bar have been applied to a cell containing NO. High resolution spectra have been photographed on the 10.7 meter concave grating spectrograph of the Observatory of Meudon. The reciprocal dispersion is D.78 {\AA}/W and the resolution 0.014 {\AA}. It is observed that the behavior under pressure of the rovibronic structure is very sensitive to the degree of interaction. In particular, interacting bands of either valence of Rydberg type exhibit a J - dependent broadening, thus reflecting the details of configuration interactions in the free molecule.
