Abstract

A laser-Stark spectrometer has been used to record transitions in the $\nu_{5}$ vibration-rotation band of methylacetylene. The spectra of this totally-symmetric vibration are weak and sparse, but several transitions were assigned and their resonant electric fields measured. Resonances were observed with the P(32) and P(36) laser lines of the $10.4\, \mu m$ band of $CO_{2}$ and the nearby P(10) laser line of $N_{2}O$. The $J = 2 \leftarrow 1$ rotational transition in the $\nu_{5} = 1$ vibrational state has been observed by microwave spectroscopy and its Stark effect measured. The vibration-rotation parameters which result from the combined analysis of the infrared and microwave results will be reported.
