Abstract

A new technique has been developed which makes it possible to obtain picosecond transient absorption spectra in the $200nm - 800nm$ region of the spectrum. This method extends the previously useful wavelength range of $800 - 350nm$ to much deeper ultraviolet wavelengths with an ultimate time resolution of 2ps. In addition, the experimental signal to noise ratio of the transient spectrum has been greatly enhanced by using a 2 KHz regenerative picosecond laser as the excitation source. This novel instrument is applied to study the transient spectroscopy of photogenerated radicals in solution.
