Abstract

Both 1,4-dichloronaphthalene and 1-bromo-4-chloronaphthalene have the same crystal structure $(P2_{1}/C, Z = 4)$ and they form solid solutions in all proportions. Although 1,4-dibromonaphthalene has a different crystal structure $(P2_{1}/C, Z = 8)$ it forms extensive solid solutions with 1-bromo-4 chloronaphthalene. The solid state singlet-triplet spectra of the three compounds are compared to discern the effects of chemical perturbation and change in lattice structure, Exciton relaxation routes and energy transport are investigated in binary solid solutions of the compounds.
