Abstract

The microwave spectrum of acetamide ($CH_{3}CONH_{2}$) has been studied in the frequency region 18.0 - 40.0 GHz. The spectrum of the A torsional species has been fitted and quadrupole coupling constants obtained. An anomalously low inertial defect indicates that the barrier to internal rotation about the C-C bond is on the order of a few hundred calories per mole.
