Abstract

The Dancing Body as a Tool for Understanding was a choreographic, creative process meant to unpack how the movement of the body is a bridge to understanding visual art and its innate humanness. Through embodied research and play at museums around Columbus, information was gathered on how the kinesthetic body can be a tool to experience and understand. In collaboration with my cast, we unpacked our discoveries and used them to inform a choreographic process. Through this process, we have leaned into topics such as agency, kinesthetic memory, informal vs. formal spaces, and storytelling. The findings of this distinction project exposed a deeper understanding of how dance and museums can be in conversation with each other.
