Abstract

Germyl silane (Extra open brace or missing close brace{G_{e}{H_{2}}Si{H_{3}{G_{e}{H_{2}}Si{H_{3}) has been prepared by a new method and its microwave spectrum studied. The following rotational constants have been obtained for the three most abundant germanium isotopes. B0(Mc/S)Ge703,706.01Ge723,679.90Ge743,655.09 Spectral intensities are consistent with the very low dipole moment expected for the molecule (∼0.1debye). With suitable assumptions for the SiH3,GeH3 parameters, the Si--Ge bond distance is found to be 2.358±0.005\AA. This research was made possible by support extended Harvard University by the Office of Naval Research.
