Abstract
Human capital is important in any nation, especially countries that are trying to develop and remove themselves from poverty. While investing in the education system may seem to be the most efficient way to improve human capital within a society, investing in a social welfare system, such as social security, may have an even more profound effect. For it is through social security that families can feel secure in their present state, allowing them to invest in the future through their children's education. In this paper, the author will explain how important social security is developing countries such those in Latin America, and show the correlation between social security spending and education.
