Abstract

A computer controlled CARS instrument has been developed for obtaining CARS spectra of liquids in the visible and ultra-violet regions. The computer operations include; control of the frequency of the probe and pump beams and analyzing monochromator and frequency doubling crystals. The control of the mirror position allows a continuous variation of the phase matching angle and permits rapid acquisition of data. The CARS spectra are stored digitally for later smoothing, analysis and plotting. Line shape analyses near a single photon resonance have been performed for several molecules and will be discussed in light of the present theories for resonance enhancement in CARS.
