Abstract

“The infrared spectrum of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane gas has been examined in the frequency range $50 cm^{-1}$ to $1500 cm^{-1}$. The lowest frequency bands are centered about $120 cm^{-1}$, $225 cm^{-1}$, and $350 cm^{-1}$. The lowest frequency band contour is consistent with that to be expected for the torsional oscillation arising from a barrier to internal rotation of 4.2 keals per mole. We are pleased to acknowledge support by Engineer Research and Development Laboratories, U. S. Army, and the National Science Foundation (G-1892) (A.D.), and by the Milton Fund of Harvard University (J.L.W.) during the period in which this work was done.”
