Abstract

This project aims to redesign the first-floor lobby and outdoor spaces of Kottman Hall to better reflect the values of the CFAES community while improving functionality, inclusivity, and collaboration. The current Brutalist design does not align with CFAES’s mission of "We Sustain Life.", or the needs and values of students, faculty, and staff that utilize the building daily. Our redesign will create welcoming, adaptable spaces that foster engagement and interdisciplinary interaction.Key deliverables include a community needs assessment, a comprehensive design plan, an application for the Framework Space Grant, and a future management strategy to ensure sustainable upkeep. This proposal serves as a foundation for stakeholders to assess alignment with community needs, inform decision-making, and establish a sustainable framework for the project's execution. By revitalizing these shared spaces, we aim to create a more cohesive and engaging campus environment that honors the historical significance of Kottman Hall while promoting innovation and collaboration.
