Abstract
Lyall's research focuses on the dynamics of violence in both conventional and guerrilla warfare, with special emphasis on Afghanistan and Russia’s Northern Caucasus (particularly Chechnya). His works draws on diverse methods, ranging from historical and cross-national comparisons to field and quasi--experiments at the subnational and local level.
