The two photon transition in benzene is investigated by high resolution multiphoton ionization in a pulsed supersonic beam. Efficient rotational and vibrational cooling allows for more accurate measurements of the rotation less vibronic origins as well as resolution of weak structure heretofore obscured in broad rotational envelopes and hot bands. Several isotopic spectra have been taken and characterized. In addition, polarization measurements and band profile calculations are used to facilitate assignments. Our work confirms many of the assignments of but assignments of new lines and some reassignments will be presented.
