Abstract

Infrared and Raman spectra have been measured on 44 compounds of the general formula $(Alk-NH_{3})_{2}MX_{6}$ where Alk = methyl through t-butyl, M = Sn Pt, and Pd, and X = CI, Br. The internal modes of the crystalline compounds art mainly due to skeletal motions of the metal complex. The primary metal coordination polyhedron appears to be a square bipyramid. Systematic shifts in vibrational frequencies can be related to changes in detailed crystal structure particularly bond lengths and to the packing efficiency of tile alkyl groups.
