Abstract

Volatilization of LiClO4 permits the vapor deposition of the glass phase as well as matrix isolation of monomeric LiClO4. The strong distortion of the tetrahedral ClO4 anion in the 1:1 association with lithium can be viewed as a limiting case and, thus, is informative regarding cation-anion interactions in other media, such as molten salt systems. The monomer and glass spectra will be contrasted with data for the melt and crystal phases.
