Abstract

The effects of $l$-type resonance on perpendicular bands of oblate tops where $C_{v}- B_{v}-C_{e}\zeta^{x}\simeq 0$ have been investigated. Such bands closely resemble symmetric top parallel bands under both high and low resolution. It is found that while significant intensity perturbations occur, analyses of either resolved or unresolved band contours which neglect l-type resonance are quite effective. This is shown to be due to the dominance of the K = J lines in the P and R branches for which l-type resonance effects are a minimum. Examples will be presented.
