Abstract

Raman spectra of the difluorocyclopropenyl cation, and its deuterated modification have been observed in solution in SO2 with BF4 as the counterion. Infrared spectra of the solid salts with BF4 and SbF6 have been obtained with an ``open-face sandwich’’ technique, In which, for example, a thin layer of BF3 and a thinner layer of trifluorocyclopropene are deposited on a CsI window at liquid nitrogen temperature and then allowed to react by repeated cycling to higher and higher temperatures. An assignment of the fundamentals will be presented and compared with those of the monofluorocyclopropenyl cation.
