Abstract
Two, three, and four photon resonances in multiphoton ionization of furan provide new spectra information on the valence and Rydberg levels of furan. The ultraviolet band system between 52, 230 $cm^{-1}$ and 57, $325 cm^{-1}$ which was originally $assigned^{1}$ to vibrational bands of one electronic transition is shown to consist of two separate transitions. An assignment of the weak band at $52198 cm^{-1}$ to the 3p Rydberg member is in agreement with Derrick’$s^{2}$ assignments, but the strong bands above $54524 cm^{-1}$ are assigned to a valence transition. The nd or nf Rydberg series in three photon resonances are stringer than the np series which is the reverse of that observed in lone photon transitions. Vibrational progression of 860, 1105 and $1440 cm^{-1}$ are observed.
