Abstract

“The heats of formation and dissociation energies of the gaseous monoxides of La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Yb, Lu and Y have been derived from studies of the vaporization of the corresponding sesquioxides, in which a combination of Knudsen effusion and mass-spectrometric techniques was employed. The dissociation energies appear to vary periodically with atomic number in much the same manner as the heats of sublimation of the elements, making it possible to interpolate values for the monoxides not yet studied.”
