Abstract

The gas phase infrared spectrum as well as the liquid phase Raman data of bis(trifluoromethyl) peroxide have been reported from 33cm−1 to 3000cm−1 and from 200cm−1 to 1400cm−1, respectively. Assignments of the twenty-four normal modes will be given and discussed. The CF3 torsional modes have been observed and the barrier to internal rotation has been calculated to be 5.7±0.4 kcal/mole. The 0-0 torsional absorption has also been observed, but due to lack of data, only a rough estimate of the cis barrier will be given.
