Abstract

The gas phase infrared spectrum as well as the liquid phase Raman data of bis(trifluoromethyl) peroxide have been reported from $33 cm^{-1}$ to $3000 cm^{-1}$ and from $200 cm^{-1}$ to $1400 cm^{-1}$, respectively. Assignments of the twenty-four normal modes will be given and discussed. The $CF_{3}$ torsional modes have been observed and the barrier to internal rotation has been calculated to be $5.7 \pm 0.4$ kcal/mole. The 0-0 torsional absorption has also been observed, but due to lack of data, only a rough estimate of the cis barrier will be given.
