Abstract
The $PH_{3}$ spectrum has been measured in the spectral region 2440-2160 $cm^{-1}$ (approximately 4-5 $\mu$m) by using a vacuum grating infrared spectrograph at a resolution of about $0.02 cm^{-1}$. The $\nu_{3}$ fundamental occurring here has been analyzed through J = 12 and K = 7 and to higher K-values in the $^{P}P$ series. The band center of this perpendicular-type band is found to have a value about 1 $cm^{-l}$ higher than that given $earler.^{1}$ Another fundamental vibration rotation band, $\nu_{1}$, also occurs in this region. Detailed analysis is being attempted of these fundamentals as well as overtone and combination bands observed in this spectral region. The $PH_{3}$ spectrum at these wavelengths has astrophysical interest especially to the spectrum of $Jupiter.^{2}$
