Abstract

Structural peculiarities of liquid crystals (LC) depend essentially on the thermal pre-history of the sample. They specifically develop in the form and position of vibrational bands in Raman and IR absorption spectra. Results of investigation of temperature variations of Raman spectra band contours at different rate of cooling of MBBA are presented in the report. According to temperature variations of the width and shift of bands it were determined correlations between form of bands and various phase states of LC and were obtained phase diagrams under shock, slow, and intermediate cooling rates. Models of structural transformations, possibility of diagnostic and identification of phase transitions for wide class of LC in dependence on their thermal pre-history are discussed in the report.
