Abstract
The microwave spectrum of $CH_{3}SiHD_{2}$ has been studied and from the splitting of the J $\neq$ 1 lines the barrier to internal rotation has been determined, using an extension of the Wilson, Lin and Lide $theory.^{1}$ If the barrier is assumed to be ${V}_{3}/2(1-\cos 3\alpha)$, then $V_{3}$ is 1630 $\pm$ 50 cal. If a $V_{6}$ term of about 100 cal is assumed, of the form ${V}_{6}/2(1-\cos 6a)$, then $V_{3}$ is 1595 $\mu$ 50 cal. This barrier is in agreement with $Kivelson’s^{2}$ work, where the barrier, 1959 $\pm$ 50 cal, was obtained from a study of the $J = O - 1$ satellites of $CH_{3}SiH_{3}$. A dipole moment study and structural analysis have also been carried out for this molecule.
