The assignment of four emission bands of the $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">40</mrow>}ArD$ molecule has been carried out successfully in terms of a common Rydherg state which is trcated as a p($\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">2</mrow>}\Pi$, $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">2</mrow>}\sum$)-complex. In order to understand the structure of this complex and the corresponding selection rules it is vitally important to include the $l \times $N- type Coriolis interaction along with the spin-orbit coupling. Two states, $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">2</mrow>}\Pi$ and $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">2</mrow>}\sum$, discovered several years ago by Johns [J. Molec. Spectroac. 36, 488 (1970)] are involved in the transitions.
