Abstract

The absolute intensity of $\nu_{2u}$ (at $1036 cm^{-1}$) has been measured in randomly oriented films of solid benzene. Using the values for the relative intensities measured $earlier,^{1}$ we have thus been able to determine the absolute intensities for all the fundamental bands observed in solid benzene. These values are considerably different from the intensity values for these fundamentals in the gas and liquid phases. Each individual band behaves differently, with no obvious generalization possible. Furthermore, the temperature dependence of the spectrum of the solid is different for each band and large for all.
