Abstract

The $\bar{A}^{2}E-\bar{X}^{2}A_{1}$ transition of strontium monomethoxide has been rotationally analysed at Doppler-limited resolution. $SrOCH_{3}$ was found to be a prolate symmetric top. The Coriolis coupling of the electronic orbital angular momentum with the rotation about the top axis causes the formally perpendicular band to appear like a parallel transition with all the sub-bands overlapping. Selective laser excitation with narrow-band selective fluorescence detection was used to extract the individual branches from the dense rotational structure. The spectra obtained and the results of their analysis will be discussed.
