Abstract

Many fundamental frequencies of inorganic molecules occur below $400 cm^{-1}$. In particular, the stretching and bending frequencies of metal-halogen bands and lattice vibrations occur in the far infrared region. The absorption spectra of a number of materials suspended in polyethylene matrices have been investigated from $400-30 cm^{-1}$ at room temperature and at liquid nitrogen temperature. The assignment of the normal modes have been made in the cases where the crystal structure is known.
