Abstract

The infrared and Raman spectra of gaseous and solid ($CH_{3})_{3}GeNCO$, ($CH_{3})_{3}GeNCS$, $GEH_{3}NCO$, and $GeD_{3}NCO$ have been obtained over the frequency range of 20 to $4000\, cm^{-1}$. The Raman spectra of the liquids have also been recorded. Assignments of the normal modes have been made on the basis of band types, Raman depolarization values, and characteristic group frequencies. The spectral data indicate that the ($CH_{3})_{3}GeNCO$ is nonlinear in all phases and that ($CH_{3})_{3}GeNCS$ has a linear or quasi-linear heavy atom skeleton in the fluid phases. The spectral data on $GeH_{3}NCO$ and $GeD_{3}NCO$ indicate that the heavy atom skeleton is nonlinear in all phases.
