Abstract

“The emission spectrum of naphthalene vapour, as excited by radio-frequency oscillations of about twenty metres wavelength, consists of discrete bands superposed on a continuum. The existence of an origin (at 32017 wavenumbers) and the activity of vibrations of symmetries ag and b3g are consistent with the view that the lowest singlet electronic transition is allowed and long-axis polarized.”
