Abstract

“The infrared spectra of Ti(urea)6I2,[V(urea)6]I3 and [Cr(urea)6]I3 were obtained from Nujol mulls and KBr pellets over the range 4000cm−1 to 400cm−1 using CaF2, NaCl and KBr prisms. The spectrum of urea was rerun over the same range for comparison. A force-constant calculation for the skeletal skeletal of moxles of urea was carried out using a potential function of the Urey-Bradley type. Assignments of the observed, bands in the complexes were made on the basis of the previously established assignments for urea. Force-constant calculations were made for the urea ligands again using the Urey-Bradley potential. Thus the frequency shifts observed in the spectra of the complexes were interpreted in terms of an effective force constant for the metal-oxygen bonds and changes in the urea skeletal force constants.”
