Abstract

The microwave spectrum of nitrosobenzene has been studied in the region 12-26 kMc. Many a-type R-branch transitions corresponding to $J = 4 \rightarrow 5, 5\rightarrow 6, 6\rightarrow 7$, and $7\rightarrow 8$ have been characterized. The vibrational satellite spectrum is very rich, but a progression of lines corresponding to oscillation of the $C-N=O$ group has been identified. The $C-N=O$ group is bent at about the usual angle, but it is held firmly in the plane of the ring by a very high barrier.
