Abstract
In an investigation of the motion of an artificial earth satellite, normally we proceed in two steps. First, we start with a simplified case by assuming that the mass distribution of the earth and of the satellite are spherical or what is identical in mechanics that the masses are concentrated in points. In addition, we assume that the motion takes place in a vacuum and that there are no disturbing effects present, due to other celestial bodies or to some physical phenomena. The resulting orbit is called normal orbit. Second, we review those factors which deviate from the assumptions above and their effect on the normal organ. The disturbed normal orbit is called perturbed. In this report a review of the closed satellite theory is contemplated and therefore most formulas are presented without proofs. For the derivations, the reader is referred to the bibliography.
