Abstract

The infrared spectra of platinum (II) complexes containing the dihydroxyacetylene, Me2C(OH)−CCC(OH)Me2, and allyl alcohol, CH2=CHCH2OH, have been examined, particularly in the O-H stretching frequency region (3000−3700cm.−1) in order to determine the role of the hydroxyl groups in complex formation. The effect on this frequency of the addition of basic solvents (ether, R3N, py, α,α-lutidine) to solutions of the free ligand and the complexes was also examined. A discussion of the possible factors influencing the stability and the structure of these complexes is presented.
