Abstract
The far infrared spectra of ionic arsenate glasses, of the form ($MAsO_{3})_{x}$(g1), where M is $Na^{+}$, $K^{+}$, $Rb^{+}$, $Cs^{+}$, and $(M(AsO_{3})_{2})_{x}g1$, where M is an alkaline earth ion, obtained in the 25--500 $cm^{-1}$ region, contain strong broad bands which shift with cation-mass and charge and are assigned as cation-motion bands. The Raman spectra, which also contain sets of bands involving cation-network interaction, are employed to investigate both vitreous and crystalline forms and provide a method for investigating the devitrification, process. A method for employing the ion-motion bands in the infrared to calculate the ion transport activation energies for these arsenate glasses, as well as antimonate, metaphosphate and silicate glasses, is described.
