Abstract
The Raman spectrum of liquid hexachlorodisiloxane was recorded by using both Toronto are and He-Ne laser excitation. Quantitative depolarization values were measured for all lines of reasonable intensity. The mid-infrared spectrum was recorded of a contact film and the far infrared spectrum of solutions in both benzene and cyclohexane was recorded to $33 cm^{-1}$. The spectra have been interpreted in detail and it was found that $D_{3d}$ symmetry selection rules are satisfactory for spectral interpretation. Such high symmetry is indicative of a very large Si-O-Si angle. The assignments are tabulated and discussed in detail.
