Abstract
The symbiosis of the Fourier transform spectrometer with the computer has allowed and allows the development of novel procedures of handling spectroscopic data. Two more such procedures are here described. The first one directly obtains the spectrum of pressure broadening coefficients of a gas sample, while the second produces directly the spectrum of the inter-molecular interaction distortions in solutions. The accuracies possible by these techniques are discussed in the light of experimental results, and shown to be critically dependent on a constant, completely defined alit function and on near perfect spectral and Intensity registration. The software relevant to these techniques is discussed and other possible applications for it reviewed.
