Abstract

The engimatic life of Annie Hamilton Nelles Dumond (1837-1903) is examined. Elements of her autobiographical "Annie Nelles; or, The Life of a Book Agent" are fabricated in part but the book remains an important work documenting itinerant book-selling in the Midwestern United States during the latter part of the 19th C. What is known of her later life, particularly in Ohio, and her death in Alberta, Canada,is recorded, as well as a complete list of her publications.
