Abstract

Ultraviolet emission spectra of the new molecules AsP, PSb and AsSb have been observed in a microwave discharge through flowing mixtures of the appropriate chlorides. The spectra have been vibrationally analysed and the assignment of PSb and AsSb as emitters was confirmed from isotope effects. It was found that vibrational predissociation and perturbation occur in the upper electronic states of AsSb and PSb, respectively. Preliminary rotational analysis of the band systems suggests that they are due to a $^{1}II-^{1}\Sigma$ transition, analogous to the known systems of AsN and SbN.
