Abstract
This research investigates how the identity of an individual member of the Lithuanian diaspora is affected by their family's history during World War II. This research expands upon the relationship between family history and personal identity. Through an explanation of conducting genealogical research and interviews with a member of the Lithuanian diaspora conducting this research, I discovered a connection between assumptions of familial innocence and gaps in familial knowledge. The tendency to assume innocence stems from a desire to have a family history that compliments their personal values and identity.
