Abstract

The microwave spectrum of chloromethyl methyl ether has been studied in the region 26.5 $\sim$ 40 GHz. The a-type R-branch lines ($J^{\prime\prime} = 3 \sim 5$) of a near prolate top have been assigned. These lines belong to the gauche conformer. The ground-state rotational constants and the nuclear quadrupole coupling parameters are: for $^{35}Cl$, A = 14 230.77 MHz, B = 3481.53 MHz, C = 3032.72 MHz, $\mu$ = - 0.9184, $X_{aa}$ = - 28 MHz, $\eta$ = 1.2; and for $^{37}C$l, A = 14 174.16 MHz, B = 3398.32 MHz, C = 2967.53 MHz, $\kappa$ = - 0.9231. The rotational constants indicate that the chlorine atom is rotated $\sim 71^{\circ}$ from the cis position, in fair agreement with the electron diffraction $study.^{1}$
