Abstract

The A4ΠX4Σ(0,0) band of MoN between 5990 and 6350 {\AA} has been studied using intermodulated laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. MoN was produced by reacting vapourized MoCl5 with microwave discharged N2 gas in a flow system. The sub-Doppler spectrum obtained was at a resolution of less than 100 MHz. The magnetic hyperfine structure caused by 95Mo and 97Mo nucleus (1=5/2) is mostly resolved. The hyperfine linewidths vary with J in the manner expected for spin uncoupling from case (ab) to Case (bbj) in a high spin multiplicity state.
