Abstract
The Microwave Spectral Data Center of the National Bureau of Standards is currently involved in two programs related to the evaluation and tabulation of microwave spectral data: (a) The primary project concerns the production of an up-dated version of the ``Microwave Spectral Tables”, which were originally published as NBS Monograph 70. Like this carlier tabulation, the new tables will contain a complete catalog of measured microwave spectral lines, assignments, estimated uncertainties, and the derived molecular constants. An overall perspective of the program and the current status of the tabulation will be discussed. (b) A more specialized project involving the critical evaluation of the microwave spectra of molecules of astrophysical interest was recently initiated. The purpose of this project is to provide radio astronomers with a complete spectral catalog of those species already identified in interstellar gas clouds. The goal of each review is the prediction of all unmeasured rotational transitions with uncertainty limits within the constraints imposed by the interstellar environment. A brief description of the completed critical reviews of formaldehyde, formamide, $thioformaldehyde^{1}$, $methylenimine^{2}$ and $methanol^{3}$ will be presented. The status of reviews on other species which are currently in progress at NBS and in other laboratories will also be discussed.
