Abstract
Gas phase $CF_{2} \tilde{A}^{1}B_{1} = \tilde{X}^{1}A_{1}$ emission has been reinvestigated and the vibrational assignments have been extended to $v_{2}{^{\prime\prime}} = 23$, in agreement with the laser induced fluorescence study of King, et $al.^{1}$ A rotational analysis of bands near 2800 {\AA} involving $1 \leq v_{2}{^{\prime\prime}} \leq 6$ has been performed on high-resolution spectra and preliminary rotational constants will be presented. In addition, more information will be presented on the 5600 {\AA} system first reported by Toby, et $al.^{2}$ and later assigned by $Koda^{3}$ as the $\tilde{a}^{3}B_{1}-\tilde{X}^{1}A_{1}$ transition of $CF_{2}$. We have reproduced these bands by reacting active nitrogen with $C_{2}F_{4}$, and we have been able to generate either the 5600 {\AA} system or the normal (nonthermal) chemiluminescence of CN in the same region with only slight changes in conditions. Efforts are continuing to obtain the 5600 {\AA} system at high-resolution in order to establish firmly the identity of the emission carrier.
