Abstract
Extensive regression analyses have been made in 25 1° x 1° blocks with observed gravity data and corresponding elevations. Statistical hypotheses tests were attempted for making a decision when localized elevation correlations obtained through the least-squares solutions should be used instead of standard Bouguer coefficients in the prediction of free-air anomalies. The results were not very satisfactory. In this connection, it was found that for the computation of localized b-value for the 1° x 1° block, the area must be divided into smaller subblocks in order to obtain more realistic b-coefficient for the block. It was also demonstrated how common b-coefficient can be computed for a larger area using subblocks. It was suggested that new techniques should be studied for determination of a better b-value.
