Abstract

Intensity measurements and $N_{2}$ pressure broadening studies have been carried out on several vibration rotation transitions in the $a^{2}\leftarrow a\nu_{2}$ hot band of $^{14}NH_{3}$, using a tunable diode laser system. The intensity date have been used to obtain precise values for the transition dipole moment of the hot band. Intensity measurements made by the direct and equivalent width methods will be compared. Results of optogalvanic studies in low pressure D.C. discharges through ammonia, using a line tunable $CO_{2}$ laser will be presented and the role of hot bands in the interpretation of these signals will be discussed.
