Abstract

The gas phase Raman spectrum of the torsional overtone of 1,3-butadiene has been investigated with $2 cm^{-1}$ resolution. Ten overtone transitions have been observed and fitted to a potential of the form. $$ V=\frac{V_{2}}{2}(1-\cos 2\phi)+\frac{V_{1}}{2}(1-\cos\phi)+\frac{V_{3}}{2}(1-\cos3\phi)$$
