Abstract

The rate of photodissociation of gas-phase ions in the ICR ion trap by visible radiation can be strongly enhanced by prior absorption of infrared photons. The use of this phenomenon to obtain information about ion infrared spectroscopy will be discussed, and illustrated for the cases of two-photon dissociations in iodobenzene and bromobenzene ions, and one-photon dissociation in m-iodotoluene ion.
