Abstract

The European Architecture Studies trip is a thirty-day expedition into the historical world of architecture that encompasses central Europe starting on April 25th and ending on May 23rd. The trip affords students the opportunity to travel and witness the real-world impact that architecture is having as it surrounds them. The student’s obligations to The Ohio State University’s standards on social interactions and academic standards present students with the appropriate expectations of behaviors as they travel around the world within the university’s influence and without it. Each location that is visited encompasses its own unique cultural experiences while enlightening about the history of the city and each influential piece of architecture there. Learning the culture, history, and architecture of central Europe focuses the trip for the students on what they are studying and also gives them an opportunity to expand themselves into a new place and understanding of who they are. Each place brings a new spark of inspiration to students of design that expands them into new ideas for the future and can change the world. A new understanding of architectural history for students can help solve problems that the world has never deemed possible to solve before. The trip is more than simply educational; it is an experience that far exceeds a price and shapes people into who they are meant to be within the world of architecture and society as a whole.
